The facts about hoodia

Hoodia is a plant that is grown in the Southern part of Africa and is commonly taken a Weight Loss supplement as Hoodia is thought to have the properties of a natural appetite supressant. One of the biggest problems relating to Hoodia as a Weight Loss supplement is the fact that it is easy to get ripped-off when buying Hoodia as a Weight Loss supplement. There are now many websites selling what claims to be Hoodia when in fact the product actually contains very little genuine Hoodia and more other products.

One of the ways to determine the quality of the product and if it is in fact 100% Hoodia is the price, if the product is all natural Hoodia then this will reflect in the amount you are asked to pay for the product. Products which contain 100% Hoodia are very expensive. If the website is offering the product for a very low cost and are claiming that it can work miracles then you are more than likely getting ripped off. On average the cost of 1 ounce of Hoodia is $40.

Does it work?

Considering that Hoodia is expensive, how effective is it actually as a diet aid? Does it work?

Research has shown that around 65% of the people who have tried Hoodia as a Weight Loss supplement have reported that it does work. It is thought that those who have reported bad results from taking the product have in fact bought a low quality product that contains very little Hoodia.

Side effects from taking the product have been in question, but Hoodia is thought to be as safe as any other appetite suppressant currently on the market. The most common symptoms and side effects to taking any appetite depressant are low blood pressure; a faster beating heart rate and it can cause a raise in the blood pressure.

Hoodia should never be taken by anyone under the age of 18 and by pregnant women and those who are breast-feeding; hoodia is available in capsule form and is also available in liquid form for those who have problems with taking pills. In most cases where there have been reports of side effects it is thought that the side effects have been caused by purchasing low quality products that contain other filler products or less desirable appetite suppressants and it these other herbs and ingredients that have an adverse reaction not the hoodia.

The amount of hoodia that you should take varies and as such there is no set dose. Some say that 1500mg controls their appetite successfully while others have to take as much as 3000mg in order to successfully control their appetite. Manufacturers of the product will give their recommended dosage on the product and this will be clearly labelled, some say two capsules three times a day, while others say while others say that only one or two capsules are needed, this of course will depend on the strength of the hoodia contained within the product.

As with any form of herbal remedy if you are thinking of taking any herbal product then always ask your doctor first.

How Hoodia changes your metabolism

One of the latest crazes in the diet pills is Hoodia, some say it is the miracle pill that can help you to achieve Weight Loss the easy way, while others have slammed as it as nothing more than a fad that simply does not work and costs an arm and a leg. So the question on everyone’s minds is - does Hoodia work or not and if so how does it work?

Hoodia is derived from a cactus that specifically grows in the Kalahari dessert in South Africa and it has for centuries being used by tribesman who break off parts of the plant and would eat it and then store some away for taking with them when they went out on hunting trips. The whole idea behind it was that Hoodia required very little room but was said to fill you up and keep you going, giving you plenty of energy, which the tribesman needed on their trek.

Today people use the same plant known as Hoodia Gordonii to achieve the same effect in their lives, make one feel full and not need to eat as much while remaining alert and healthy.

One of the biggest pluses when taking Hoodia as part of a diet in order to Lose Weight is that it speeds up the metabolism, the faster the metabolism, the more energy you burn and the more calories are burnt off. Losing calories is an essential part of any diet and is the mainstay of all diets. Without burning off the calories you eat it is impossible to Lose Weight.

Hoodia is a natural appetite suppressant, which means that while you eat very little your body is actually tricked in into thinking you are full. If your mind thinks you are full then you don’t feel the need to eat therefore you Lose Weight. Therefore, Hoodia is no different from many time honored traditions and the basis of all diets, the premise that you burn off calories faster while taking fewer in.

Being an appetite suppressant means that Hoodia can also ward off those cravings that are normally associated with all diets, you won’t feel hungry so therefore the cravings will just simply cease to exist. While Hoodia can help as part of a diet plan of course if you don’t change your lifestyle and the type of foods you do eat then you will put weight on if you are eating the wrong type of foods. Therefore a change in your daily diet is advisable, changing to a healthier way of eating while taking Hoodia is the most sensible course of action.

If you are thinking of taking Hoodia to Lose Weight then be sure that the product you are buying is 100% Hoodia as there are many cheaper imitations on the web which include a small amount of Hoodia along with other herbal appetite suppressants. Of course if you are using a product such as this then you cannot expect the results that expected with 100% Hoodia products. Products that are 100% Hoodia are typically quite expensive so don’t settle for cheap imitations.

Does hoodia have side effects?

The benefits of using Hoodia in order to Lose Weight have gained more interest over the last few years. When compared to some of the health foods and dietary supplements currently being sold in drugstores, Hoodia is generally more accepted and said to have more health benefits. The biggest plus that people turn to Hoodia pills for is their ability to decrease your appetite, which means that you don’t eat as much or even want to eat as much. This decrease in caloric intake thus leads to losing weight.

However, Hoodia claims to be different from the usual appetite suppressants in that they will keep you healthy and give you plenty of energy at the same time. Most people who use appetites suppressants report to have a severe loss in energy. If the hoodia is pure then there are no harmful side effects because Hoodia contains no harmful stimulates like many manufactured appetite suppressants.

Hoodia has been used in Africa for many years and is considered to be a food there, there are no real adverse effects to taking hoodia in its pure form, it is only when mixed with other substances that there could be problems.

One of the biggest problems is where you purchase the hoodia from, there are many websites offering hoodia to buy cheaply online. However pure hoodia is expensive so you should be very wary of anyone who is offering hoodia cheaply as in the majority of cases the product contains very little hoodia or it contains a type of Hoodia that does not help suppress appetite.

While Hoodia has undergone some research it hasn’t been inclusive, however very few herbal remedies are tested and so whether they actually work or not is often debated. Hoodia seems to fall into the same category although some tests have said that there are no real bad side effects from taking it. In some cases, people have reported that it acts as an aphrodisiac and may even some people a slight buzz.

Hoodia is a relatively new product that is used for suppressing the appetite and thirst. However, there are around 30 different types of hoodia and only Hoodia Gordonii will suppress the appetite. While hoodia is regarded as a safe way of suppressing the appetite and thousands have claimed that it is effective if you are considering taking any form of alternative herbal remedy then you should always consult your doctor.

You should also be aware that some products that are sold which claim to be hoodia, do in fact have very little of the product in it. You should always check to make sure that the product is 100% hoodia; pure hoodia is expensive so besides not wanting to take the additives that are in some of the products, you will also be paying more than you should.

If you wish to purchase hoodia then make sure you buy from a reputable herbal supplement store or an online store that deals solely in hoodia supplements. All products should have clear labeling which allows you to tell if you are indeed purchasing hoodia in its pure form or if hoodia is just one of several products in the product.

Hoodia: A Natural Drug for Weight Loss

Hoodia Gordonii is a cactus-like plant. It grows in the wild regions of the some African countries that include Angola, Namibia, Botswana. It does not grow anywhere else other than its native regions of South Africa, where the particular and the climatic conditions are conducive to its survival. The San Bushmen who live in and around the Kalahari Desert have been eating it for ages, in order to suppress their appetite for long hours during the times when they go on hunting expeditions. Modern scientists have linked this appetite-suppressing property of Hoodia to the possibility of using it as a Weight Loss drug.

The scientists at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) of South Africa isolated from Hoodia a new molecule, which they christened P 57. They declared that this molecule possessed weight-reducing properties, as discovered in their lab studies. With great possibilities for Hoodia being used as a Weight Loss drug, they patented P 57 and sold the license to a British pharmaceutical company, called Phytopharm. Pfizer, a world-renowned American company, entered into an agreement with Phytopharm, and with its collaboration tried to isolate the active ingredients from Hoodia for Weight Loss. It conducted several experiments and carried out clinical studies on the plant, in an attempt to develop and market an anti-obesity drug. After this, when for unknown reasons Pfizer returned its license, Phytopharm joined hands with Unilever with the purpose of using Hoodia extracts for making and marketing a weight-loss drug. It is expected that Unilever would introduce the drug as an effective product for reducing weight and put it into the market in 2008.

What Hoodia does for Weight Loss is quite simple to understand. The P 57 molecule in it is 10,000 times as effective as glucose in the normal food you take. When you eat Hoodia, the part of your brain called hypothalamus senses this extraordinarily high glucose ‘level’ activity. It then sends a message through the nerve cells to make you get the impression that you have had your fill even when you have not eaten anything. In short, it suppresses or kills your desire for food. Clinical studies have proved that the people who have had Hoodia consumed 1000 fewer calories per day than those put on normal food. This fact translates into Weight Loss, because the more calories you take in, the more will be your weight. Hunger and the desire to satisfy it by eating are natural for all. Nevertheless, the reason for weight gain is taking in food that puts into your system more calories than those you shed through spending your energy. Now, when you eat Hoodia, it stifles your appetite so much that the calories that get into your system will be less than those that you lose through your normal daily activities. This reduction in calorie-intake will naturally result in your losing weight and reducing your obesity.

The basic advantage of Hoodia over the other weight-loss drugs or food supplements that are available in the market is that being a natural herbal product it is free from any side effects whatsoever. If you are looking for a miracle formula for losing weight, you will not find anything else that beats Hoodia in being at once effective and safe.

Finding a Hoodia Supplement That Really Works

So you would like to find a Hoodia supplement that really works for you to lose your excess weight. You must have heard the media buzz about it as a great product for Weight Loss. Or you must have seen the advertisements of several companies that are marketing the Hoodia Gordonii supplements, in the form of pills or tablets, capsules, powders and other dietary products. Perhaps you need advice on how to find a genuine Hoodia supplement that is sure to be effective in bringing down your weight.

First, you must know as much as you can about Hoodia Gordonii, so that you can differentiate between what is true and what is not. It is a cactus-like succulent plant that grows only in the regions abutting the Kalahari Desert of South Africa. The San Bushmen living there have been eating Hoodia for ages, before setting out on their long and arduous hunting expeditions, because of the plant’s ability to kill hunger. Modern scientists have isolated a molecule, which they named P 57, from Hoodia Gordonii, and which is what makes the plant a wonderful appetite suppressant.

A British bio-pharmaceutical company, Phytopharm, holds the sole and exclusive right to market Hoodia Gordonii as a weight-loss product. Unilever, a $50 billion pharmaceutical company, has tied up with Phytopharm in this venture. Hoodia Gordonii is likely to be made available as an approved product for Weight Loss sometime in 2008. Even now it is available over the counter as a dietary supplement, but not labeled as a weight-loss drug.

After the ‘60 minutes’ program aired by CBS in November 2004, the media hype made Hoodia Gordonii a much sought after product. With the growth in demand, several companies have been marketing all kinds of supplements containing, as they claim, authentic Hoodia Gordonii. These are usually produced in combination with some other appetite suppressant drugs like ephedrine or ma huang, with some fake Hoodia. There is also no standardization in the dosage of Hoodia Gordonii in the pills or capsules marketed by the various companies.

In the circumstances, finding a true Hoodia Gordonii supplement, which alone has in it the active ingredient, P57, for curbing your appetite, becomes quite a tricky or slippery job. If you are not an informed buyer, you will end up losing a lot of money without losing any of your appetite or much of your weight.

When you want to buy genuine Hoodia Gordonii supplements, ensure that:

  1. The company marketing has a permit from CITES (the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora)
  2. The product carries an Analytical Report about its purity
  3. It carries the license from the Western Cape Conservation Authority of South Africa
  4. The Hoodia Gordonii supplement has no ephedrine, ephedra or ma huang and that it is one hundred percent pure and authentic South African product.

All reputable companies will offer a ‘money back guarantee’, meaning that if you use their product for, say six months, and are not satisfied with its effectiveness, you can claim your money back ( of course, less the usual handling and shipping expenses) by returning the empty packaging. Some of them also offer free samples.

Remember, only the authentic Hoodia Gordonii obtained under genuine licenses from the Kalahari Desert region, which is quite expensive as it is not easily produced, will really work.

Does Hoodia Really Work?

It is a fact that Hoodia Gordonii did really work for the San people living in and around the Kalahari Desert of South Africa in warding off their hunger for long stretches of time. Ask the reporters of the BBC and the CBS, whose programs in 2003 and 2004, respectively, created a sensation in the media, they may narrate their story again for you, detailing how well Hoodia gordonii suppressed their appetite for long hours, when they went to the Kalahari on a fact-finding mission and returned convinced about its power. Thousands of people who have tried the genuine Hoodia Gordonii of South Africa will not hesitate to vouch for its being effective in staving off their craving for food.

The scientists of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) of South Africa, who have isolated the wonder molecule P 57 from Hoodia Gordonii, need not repeat what they discovered about how it worked for suppressing appetite and, because of that, how it helped lab animals to Lose Weight. And some clinical studies that the scientists working for Phytopharm, Pfizer and Unilever conducted on animals and on human beings did provide solid evidence that Hoodia stifled the desire to eat.

Now, what most people want to know is about how effective Hoodia Gordonii is as a weight-loss drug. In other words, they ask, “Does it really work for losing weight on a permanent basis? The answer to this seems to be, “Well, it depends”, prompting you to ask the question, “Depends on what?”

In principle, it should really work for all those obese people who wish to shed their weight, without any condition. If the rule “eat more, gain weight and eat less, Lose Weight” is true, since Hoodia Gordonii suppresses your appetite, it follows that you eat less and therefore you Lose Weight. In fact, clinical proof is available to the effect that the people who eat Hoodia gordonii consume about 1000 calories less per day than when they eat their normal food and, therefore, they lose some of their body fat. The question is whether this is applicable to everyone who wants to Lose Weight and at all times, without any further “ifs” and “buts”. The honest answer to this question must be an emphatic NO.

Hoodia Gordonii would really work for Weight Loss, if the following conditions were satisfied:

  1. Hoodia Gordonii should be pure and authentic. All genuine Hoodia Gordonii has to have the license from the Western Cape Conservation Authority of South Africa and the permit granted by CITES (the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora). It should also carry the Analytical Report to prove its purity level.
  2. You should know the right dosage that works for you. For some a daily intake of 1500 mg may be enough, while for others even 3000 mg may not work.
  3. You should know what diet and exercise program is essential to go with Hoodia gordonii, so that your Weight Loss is not just temporary. You cannot depend only on Hoodia Gordonii to Lose Weight. Remember, you have to reduce calorie-intake and increase physical and mental activity, simultaneously, in order to Lose Weight. Hoodia gordonii just helps you reduce the calorie-intake.
  4. You should make appropriate lifestyle changes for weight reduction. Neither Hoodia Gordonii any other weight-loss drug will work otherwise.

Hoodia: The Ultimate All-Natural Weight-Loss Drug

Can’t stop eating? Feel like you are trapped by food? Stop worrying, a magic Weight Loss drug has been discovered. Your obesity problem will be gone and all those extra pounds will be shed. Hoodia truly is the ultimate all-natural weight-loss drug that will actually kill your desire to eat. Extracted from Hoodia Gordonii, a cactus-like plant that grows in the wild in the desert regions of South Africa, Angola, Namibia and Botswana, it has the potential to provide relief to all those suffering due to weight problems. The world’s search for a miracle obesity cure has come to and end. Hoodia is the final frontier for fighting obesity without side effects.

History of Hoodia

For ages, the Xhomani San Bushmen who live in and around the Kalahari desert in South Africa have been eating the Hoodia plant before setting out on their long hunting expeditions in order to keep the hunger-wolf away for days at a stretch. Their long-kept secret has escaped and quickly spread across the globe as the best natural appetite suppressant and Weight Loss drug.

The <tag>Hoodia</tag> plant also very widely known by its Latin name, Hoodia Gordonii, than its many alternative names, which include Xhooba or Xhoba, Ikhooba, Ghaap, Hoodia cactus, South African desert cactus, Bushman’s Hat, Queen of Namib and so on. Although it has remarkable similarities with cactus, it does not belong to the cactus family of plants. Its green and upright stem is succulent, grows up to a meter in height and bears large flesh-colored or pale, purple flowers with a strong unpleasant smell. The plant also tastes quite bitter. Like many of the Hoodia species - there are at least 13 known species - Hoodia Gordonii is a protected plant in the areas extending from central Namibia to southern Angola. In the extremely high temperatures and arid climate there, it matures after several years of growth. Normally, the plant is ready to be harvested at the age of about five years, when it begins to flower.

If you attempt to grow Hoodia Gordonii in your backyard, you will not succeed. Many people have already made such futile attempts to grow it in USA, Mexico, China as well as other countries. However, the plant needs the exact soil and climatic conditions that are prevalent in the Kalahari Desert regions, where it thrives naturally.

As early as 1937, a Dutch anthropologist who studied the life of San Bushmen of South Africa, observed during his study that these people would eat Hoodia Gordonii for suppressing their appetite. In 1963, some of the scientists at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) conducted lab studies on the effect of Hoodia on rats and proved that the plant did in fact possess weight-reducing properties.

Isolating and licensing the appetite suppressant

Later, in 1977, the CSIR scientists isolated a new molecule from Hoodia Gordonii, which was given the name P 57. This new molecule had been proven to be the appetite-suppressing molecule. The CSIR patented P 57 in 1997 and then sold the license to Phytopharm, a bio-pharmaceutical company located in Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom. In turn, Phytopharm entered into an agreement in 1998 with the largest pharmaceutical company of the world, Pfizer, based in New York, to collaborate in order to in order to isolate the active ingredients responsible for the Hoodia working as an appetite suppressant. Pfizer, with this collaboration, wanted to develop and market an anti-obesity drug and undertook clinical studies in this connection, which continued quite successfully, until 2003.

However, Pfizer returned the rights of P 57 in July that year. Perhaps Pfizer wanted to synthesize P 57 and commercially produce synthetic P 57 and market it, but as the costs involved in the process were prohibitive, it withdrew from the project. Phytopharm later tied up with Unilever with the intention of marketing an obesity drug based on Hoodia extracts.

How Hoodia works

Although it sounds like a miracle drug, it is not too difficult to understand how it works. The active ingredient P 57 in Hoodia Gordonii works just like when you eat. Whenever you take in food, the levels of your blood glucose rise in your body and the nerve cells in your mid-brain, the hypothalamus, recognize the raised blood sugar levels to give you a feeling of having satisfied your appetite. Now what happens when you take Hoodia Gordonii, which has the molecule P 57 in it, is very similar. Since P 57 is about 10,000 times as active as glucose, your brain senses its high glucose activity and triggers its nerve cells to make you feel full, even though you have not really eaten any food. P 57 thus deceives your brain into thinking that you have had your fill, without even a morsel actually getting into your stomach. In other words, P 57 effectively stifles your appetite and so you don’t feel like eating for considerably long stretches of time.

Phytopharm conducted clinical studies on obese people who were put on P 57 extracted from Hoodia Gordonii and found that their food intake came down by about 1000 calories a day. You can very well estimate that over the long term, this decrease in the amount of food eaten will have a huge effect on body weight as well.

In the last few years, therefore, the demand for Hoodia Gordonii has been on the upswing. And so has been its hype. In 2002, in recognition of the ownership rights of the San tribesmen over the Hoodia plant and the ingredients derived from it, the CSIR even granted them a percentage of the profits accruing from the marketing and sale of Hoodia and its products. Due to this, as the Hoodia sales keep increasing, these indigenous Bushmen of South Africa, impoverished for ages, will no longer suffer from poverty from the overwhelming amount of royalties paid them due to the popularity of Hoodia products.

The hype begins

In 2003, with the BBC program on Hoodia Gordonii, the hype in the media kicked off and the very next year the “60 minutes” program on CBS celebrated its beneficial property of being a natural drug for suppressing appetite. Numerous people started taking interest in the widespread media exposure that Hoodia Gordonii received in the few years that followed. With that, many companies clamored for the opportunity to market it and make money.

Unilever, under an agreement with Phytopharm, started marketing shakes and diet-bars containing Hoodia Gordonii, in 2004. And in July 2006, another company introduced into the market Hoodia-lollipops under the brand name PowerPops. There are of course several other companies, a few of them authorized but most others with counterfeit products, trying to cash in on the growing reputation of Hoodia Gordonii. Countless people wanting to Lose Weight have perhaps spent their hard-earned money on the so-called Hoodia Gordonii-enhanced products only to realize that they spent their money on counterfeit products. Their experience means that you must be extra vigilant when choosing your Hoodia products. Read the label to verify that it has genuine Hoodia Gordonii or P 57 before purchasing.

Phytopharm currently has the sole and exclusive license to market Hoodia Gordonii as a Weight Loss product. With the help of its contract with Unilever, Phytopharm expects to begin marking more products containing P57 as a major ingredient some time in 2008. In the meantime, there are a few authentic shakes, diet bars and PowerPops available to help you eat less. Phytopharm has cornered most of the Hoodia Gordonii available now and in the near future for harvesting. Even the small quantities of Hoodia Gordonii that is outside the control of Phytopaharm cannot be taken without a permit granted by CITES (the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora).

Hoodia versus other Weight Loss supplements

Hoodia Gordonii products are available in the market as supplements, but are very often counterfeit or and contain other less desirable and unnatural appetite suppressants. It is important to verify that the supplements you purchase are made from pure Hoodia Gordonii. There are a number of other Weight Loss supplements you will find on the shelves that claim to help you Lose Weight. You may wonder whether Hoodia Gordonii works in the same manner as the other available diet pills for Weight Loss.

See, for any Weight Loss to occur, what you have to do is burn more calories than you take in via food. The larger the difference between the number of calories consumed and the number of calories expended, the greater the loss in weight, because that much fat has to be burnt by way of compensating the difference. The amount you put in and the amount you take out will determine your net gain or loss to your account. It is as simple as that. It is possible for you to Lose Weight if you are consistent in doing two things, namely, (a) reduce your calorie intake, either by drastically reducing your food intake, or by sticking to a low-calorie diet, and (b) increase the burning of your calories, either by taking up some vigorous physical exercise on a regular basis or by using diet pills, which most people consider to be the easier option. Nevertheless, as per the experience of most people who use diet pills, their undesirable or harmful side effects make life more miserable than ever before.

Quite differently though, Hoodia Gordonii also works on the principle of burning more calories than those taken in. It just takes away your desire for food by making you feel full even when you have not eaten at all. That means your calorie intake will considerably go down, resulting in some of your accumulated body fat being used up for the energy required for you leading an active life, which translates into Weight Loss. Put differently, you perhaps continue to burn the same number of calories as before, but because you don’t take in as many calories as before due to lack of appetite, thanks to Hoodia Gordonii, you experience a net loss in your calorie account. This results in your losing weight.

There is an added advantage in taking Hoodia Gordonii over other available Weight Loss supplements. It does not have any side effects whatsoever - much unlike in the case of normal diet pills. The San Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert do not experience any discomfort, any pain or any after-effects when they eat the innards of the Hoodia plant. And neither will you. Incidentally, if at all you happen to go to the Kalahari Desert and get hold of the real Hoodia Gordonii plant, first remove its spine and peel off its outer skin, before eating the inside part of the plant, which alone contains the P 57 molecule, the active ingredient that curbs your appetite. This point is also important when searching for Hoodia products on the market. You want to be sure that they use only the insides of the plant.

Case studies proving Hoodia works

While investigating the Hoodia Gordonii story, two journalists, each working for a different employer, gave a vivid account of their experiences, which strongly support the role that Hoodia Gordonii plays in suppressing appetite. Tom Mangold’s report (which was aired on the BBC in 2003) states that he and his camera operator ate about a half-a-banana size part of Hoodia Gordonii somewhere in the Kalahari Desert one evening, and soon after felt full. Both of them felt very good about the experience of eating the plant and did not think of food at all for almost four hours as they drove down all the way to Cape Town. In fact, they skipped the dinner that night and the breakfast the following morning, because their brains did not trigger the message of hunger. Their normal appetite returned gradually, but only after about 24 hours. In 2004, CBS reporter Leslie Stahl said that she felt no after-effects of eating Hoodia Gordonii. She felt “no funny taste in her mouth, no queasy stomach, and no racing heart.” And she did not feel hungry at all for the entire day that day, after eating this magic appetite-killing plant. The appetite suppressant powers of Hoodia gordonii cannot be attested better.

Phytopharm has also conducted a double-blind clinical study on two groups of healthy but overweight people, in 2001, to study the effects of P 57 extracted from Hoodia Gordonii. One group was given P 57 and the other just a placebo. The study revealed that the group that received P 57 showed a significant reduction in calorie intake as well as in body fat, but did not experience any undesirable side effects. The people in the P 57 group on an average consumed 1000 fewer calories per day than those in the placebo-group, which was a significant difference that has to be attributed to the powers of Hoodia gordonii.

The two journalists, Tom Mongard and Leslie Stahl, only confirmed by direct experience what Phytopharm had known earlier through its clinical study. There is no dispute about the effectiveness of Hoodia Gordonii as a powerful means of staving off appetite. There is no doubt that with suppressed appetite you tend to take in less than normal calories. There cannot be any question about the fact that Hoodia gordonii thus helps not just in the prevention of weight gain but actually promotes Weight Loss. What is more, it does not produce any adverse side effects. Hoodia Gordonii is therefore absolutely safe.

Hoodia gordonii provides an easy solution to all those millions of overweight and obese people, who adopt desperate measures of dieting and exercise for Weight Loss, but fail due to the lack of will power or consistency. They won’t have to fight any untimely cravings for snacks and food items, if they take Hoodia Gordonii, as it successfully curbs their appetite for long periods. Several others who at first succeed in shedding some weight in a short time span by taking one crash course or the other, but later gain back all the weight with full force once they stop that course, also stand to benefit from Hoodia gordonii, as it offers a long-term solution. And those others that suffer more from the side effects of a badly conceived Weight Loss program than their overweight find in Hoodia Gordonii a safe bet, as it is a completely natural substance free from any adverse effects.

Now that you need no more convincing about the miracle powers of Hoodia gordonii, you might like to get some advice on how to procure genuine Hoodia Gordonii. Look for new products offered by Unilever in 2008, or purchase PowerPops, supplements or shakes with Hoodia in the meantime. But if you are impatient, you want to lay your hands on any Hoodia Gordonii supplements that are not counterfeit, then make sure that the Hoodia gordonii you buy comes from the heart of the plant harvested in the desert regions of the Kalahari, in South Africa. The product should contain only the inner part, but should not include the spine or the skin of the plant. Remember, only the heart of Hoodia Gordonii holds the active molecule P 57 - the miracle appetite suppressant.

Is It Safe to Take Hoodia If I Have Other Medical Conditions?

As with any product, it’s always best to check with your doctor before you start taking a new supplement - even if it’s a natural ingredient, like Hoodia, it can sometimes interfere with your existing medication.

But in general, researchers have found that pure Hoodia does not yet cause problems in people like diabetics ingesting it. However, some products containing Hoodia are not pure in form, but are mixed with other ingredients, which is why you should always be vigilant about checking with your healthcare provider before you start taking a new product.

Scientists continue to research how Hoodia interacts with medications and also how it affects those with existing medical conditions other than obesity. Tests are being conducted on humans to address these issues.

With a condition such as diabetes, which often comes about due to obesity, Hoodia can help the user cut down on cravings and food consumption that contribute to the development of the disease.

At the same time, researchers know that Hoodia has a direct effect on the part of the brain that controls your hunger and thirst, so it may contribute to blood sugar level fluctuations as well if it causes the brain to monitor those levels a different way.

In the past, some cultures used Hoodia to treat diabetes and other conditions, but that was in absence of today’s modern medicine that’s used to control and treat such issues. No research was conducted during those times to see how the people reacted to the drug, but it’s all they had at the time.
